Kasane - Komiya's Folding Umbrella

Founded in Tokyo in 1930 by Houshou Komiya, who was born in the birthplace of the prestigious 'Koshu Weave' boasting over 400 years of history, the umbrella brand 'Komiya' continues to thrive. Despite the challenges posed by the proliferation of mass-produced inexpensive western umbrellas, artisans in Tokyo meticulously handcraft each umbrella to this day.

The Kasane series produced by Komiya employs the Koshu Weave fabric, where finely dyed threads are woven densely and uniformly to achieve a glossy, rich hue, and a refined, substantial texture, maintaining its high quality over time. By further processing this fabric into umbrella material, not only is a sense of luxury attained, but the finished umbrellas also embody high water resistance and durability.

Now woven on highly rare narrow looms, the fabric edges (selvedges) lack machine stitches, alleviating concerns of fraying even with long-term use. Along with water repellent and water-resistant treatments, UV cut (ultraviolet prevention) processing is also applied, making these umbrellas versatile for both rainy and sunny days.
